Cormandel Sea Change by Rumer Godden

This story is small; not to say short, but highly constructed, like a play or a fable. Characters are used as necessary elements for the unfolding of the ultimate debacle, and reparation of sorts. Like the Tortoise and the Hare, you get the sense of a clockwork production underway. A honeymoon couple learn of their differences through their respective reactions to a backwater town in India - the Real India. I enjoyed Godden's book A Peacock Spring a great deal more. I don't know if her work changed or I did. But if you are determined to ignore my hysterical opinion.
