 Claire Daly - Swing Low

Swing Low by Claire Daly

When my husband and I divided up the domestic chores, I got the floor washing. I always liven up the event by blasting Sonny Rollins, an excellent energy booster. Nothing hollers Îjazz' at me quite like a wailing saxophone.

I was very happy to discover some of that Rollins' spirit evoked on this album by baritone player Claire Daly, most particularly in her rendition of "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face". And there is great rapport between Claire and her guest on that track, the impeccable George Garzone. Daly does site Sonny Rollins as a major influence in her liner notes, aha. She also includes a Roland Kirk composition here, (another one of my favs). So you know she's coming from a lyrical, wild and wonderful place. Her sound is great and she swings - what more do you want?

Awright, gimme my mop.
