Christmas by Misc

*Here, in the spirit of the holiday season, are some recommendations for Christmas albums by some of the great women in jazz. *

Ella Wishes You A Swinging Christmas
Ella Fitzgerald Wishes You A Swinging Christmas
Ella, clear as a bell as always, singing Jingle Bells, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas and other classics.

Lena Horne - Christmas
Lena Horne Christmas
Lena, with a kick-ass big band, singing virtually the same selection as Ella above, i.e. Jingle Bells, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas and other classics.

Christmas Cocktails - vol. 2
Various Artists Christmas Cocktails Vol. 2
Oh, what have we come to when jazz performers June Christy, Lena Horne, Peggy Lee, and Julie London are put out on a series called Ultra-Lounge and classified as 'easy-listening'? A great collection of artists on this one, despite the rough shod marketing.

Blossom Dearie - Christmas Spice, So Very Nice
Blossom Dearie Christmas Cocktails Vol. 2
A full album of Christmas spirit from the inimitable Blossom Dearie, put out on her own Daffodil Label.
