 Outsmarting the Female Fat Cell

Outsmarting the Female Fat Cell by Debra Waterhouse

Okay, I admit I felt comforted by all the scientific data in this book but didn't actually dig in and read it all that closely. I was searching for the quick fix, the gist of the ideas that would help me to figure out how to lose the thunder thighs.

The premise makes lots of sense - i.e. men and women metabolize food differently. So if we starve ourselves in an attempt to lose weight, our bodies freak out and think we're nomads and try to stash as much fat in our hip and thigh regions as possible just in case ... saving it for a rainy day, and who knows when a nomadic woman might get pregnant and need those nine months of fat that are stacked there?

I decided to adopt a few of the ideas contained in here and try them out for a month or so before writing this review. So I have been snacking at regular intervals, eating earlier so my body has time to burn calories and walking lots to fulfill the aerobic exercise requirements. I stop eating when I am full, occasionally drink fluids instead of eating and discover I'd confused thirst with hunger. What I have found so far, following this logic, is that I am more hungry more often, am metabolizing my food better and I am also beginning to rediscover my hip bones! So yes, it works, it is painless and even fun! Truthfully, I'd plug any book that promotes a licence to snack, but what is remarkable is that I don't seem to be gaining any weight ... so Debra Waterhouse is definitely on to something. And now when my father pesters me to drop carbohydrates I can say knowledgeably "oh, that's fine for you, you're a MAN! I need my snacks every two or three hours or else!".
