Queen of the Headhunters by Sylvia, Lady Brooke

The Ranee of Sarawak

Oh, if only everyone who had an interesting and exciting life in strange lands could write. Why can't we all be Isaak Dinesen? This short autobiography is good for a taste of historical tourism in colonial times in Borneo, and some interesting anachronistic notions - "So of course, I was frigid my whole life thereafter."(?!). But unfortunately the Lady Brooke suffers from the same ailment as the Bloomsbury Girl, she is not quite dishing it out as well as her raw material deserves. However, If you like old photos, and a pretty good alligator story, this out of print book is still worth a look.
