Marlene Dietrich by Maria Riva
seems to be the title on the binding of this book by Maria Riva, the daughter. There's just a huge face of Dietrich on the cover. Refer to above Peggy Guggenheim memoir review for general description but include Hollywood in with European and US art world. The added bonus in this case is that Riva's writing style is communicative, evocative, perceptive and humorous. And her research and her resource materials make this a properly fleshed-out memoir/biography. Let's put it this way, for me, this book makes Marlene Dietrich way more interesting than any of her films do. No punches are pulled, but its not a "Mommie Dearest" either. The back cover says "gossipy...detailed...entertaining..." All true and with photos too.
