 Second Sight by Judith Orloff

Second Sight by Judith Orloff

I have a signed copy of Judith Orloff's book Second Sight, lucky me. Getting out to her reading was a bit of an effort on this cheerful, spring day and sitting still as she talked (she didn't read) was also hard. She is very soft-spoken and had no microphone so it was a bit of a strain to hear her. And there was no obvious rapport with the small audience, so she went wildly from one point to another, hoping to spark something no doubt.

After about twenty minutes I had decided to buy her book. She does not come from the same place as I do but she has done some extremely enviable things, which she writes about. She was involved in psychic research very early on in her life and knkows many exercises and systems for psychic development that could be useful. She is, after all, a psychic psychiatrist.

The book is speedy and interesting, probably a lot like her brain, packed with information and opinion. Sometimes she just reeks of L.A., like when she hints at famous film stars she has worked with or when she puts someone down for wearing pants she finds shabby, or in her shameless capitalism in using her psychic skills to hunt for lost pirate treasure, etc., the same kind of things that make one jumpy reading a New Age book by Shirley MacLaine, for instance. I don't really want to know that her mother bought her a Mercedes when she opened her upscale psychiatry practice (cringe) but then that is a part of her and it is her book, right? Just makes it WAY hard to relate. Easier to relate to are her early descriptions of her struggles with being psychic, tumbling off a cliff and surviving, things like that. I recommend her book if only for this part of her story and the insight it contains.
