Talking to Heaven by James Van Praagh
Whoa, I think James Van Praagh is a pretty heavy dude. He wrote a New York Times bestseller about talking to the dead. I'll admit I skimmed over the bits where he explains how all this works and what it all means. I'm less interested in his religious philosophy at the moment than all these excellent antecdotes. The only complaint about those is that they are written in a stilted sort of fashion, all very similar to one another. Do I detect a dictaphone? Does every single person have to say "oh my god!" when Van Praagh gives them pertinent details from the other side? These people are just not articulate enough for me, all exclaiming the same way. But then again, maybe I'm expecting too much of the world and these are actual transcripts. The stories themselves are very compelling. He even talks to dead dogs on the other side, and tells their mournful owners how they are missed. As an animal lover, I appreciated that detail. It would be fun to read about readings he has done for people who aren't sceptical, so that his next book would preach to the converted less and be maybe even more ground-breaking.
