Interior Design with Feng Shui by Sarah Rossbach

This is my Feng Shui bible. What makes it especially useful is that Sarah Rossbach has done all the work and translated the ideas of Feng Shui into the contemporary Western environment. So instead of trying figure out how ancient laws of Feng Shui designed for, say, farms on mountainside relate to an urban apartment, Rossbach will figure it out for you.

Harmony in the home has a lot to do with the placement of furniture and objects, the layout of the rooms and the surrounding neighbourhood. The idea is to free the chi, the energy, so that your life will be enriched and free of stress and blockages. Tips included here include how to prevent your fortune from flushing down the toilet, how to avoid walking in the previous owners footsteps, how to prevent burglars from robbing you with mystic means, how best to seat yourself in an office so that you don't get fired, and other strategies for success. She gives clear examples and there are some very good before and after Feng Shui photos included as well.

I once worked in an office where I was the person seated closest to the door - I was always the last person to arrive in the morning, the first person to leave at night. That door kept pulling me away from my desk. Later I moved to a different office, seated facing a window with my back to the room and sure enough, many things started to go on behind my back. Reading Rossbach's book reinforces intuitive feelings you have had and gives you a concrete structure to work with towards improving your spaces, both mental and physical. She's written more books on the subject since - reviews to follow once I've read them.

Thank you for pointing us to the Feng Shui guide to interior design! This has provided some valuable inspiration for our project. We are a young couple trying our best to build a small sustainable, green and eco-friendly home in the downtown core of oil city Calgary, Canada. We are also blogging our way through the whole experience! It may be an eco-friendly home, but we want it to look the best that it can.

We are now at the stage where we have to start thinking about interior design choices. This includes our own research looking through stacks of decorators catalog and talking to interior design professionals in calgary. Your site has definitely given us some helpful advice. Please stop by and take a peek at www.ramsayhome.com.
